During our formative years, we learn patterns of behaviour, beliefs and thought patterns. These influence who we are, how we feel and think and how we treat others.
What influences our belief system? This depends on human and non-human interactions as much as cultural, religious, political and socio-economic factors. Together with whether or not we’ve experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, abandonment, bereavement and loss.
Learnt behaviours, beliefs and thought patterns can be positive or negative. Throughout our lives, we adopt coping mechanisms, which affect our ability to achieve goals and reach our full potential. These coping mechanisms aren’t necessarily True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary or Kind and this can change over time too.
